QuickBooks 2005 Hang and the incredibly simple fix

Besides the fact that I'm having to run QuickBooks via Virtual PC since the Mac version doesn't support downloading transactions over the Internet (what good is the program then?), the stupid program hangs when it tries to install its updates about 25% through qbupdate.exe.local.

The solution? Eject the install CD from the drive.

No kidding. (The problem even plagues my Mac via Virtual PC.)

Open source software doesn't have this problem as stupid bugs like this are fixed fairly promptly.
