From boston.com: "AT LAST! Pigs can fly, hell is frozen, the slipper finally fits, and Impossible Dreams really can come true."
Taken (by my friend Carin because I was too lazy to dig out my camera) when I was in Boston two weekends ago outside of State Hall. Even then, it was 2-0 Yankees. Never stopped believing. Wow. Thanks. [/sports/redsox] permanent link Pinch me please. Or not. (It's 5AM and I can't get to sleep.) Go Sox! As Pinto says, "If there is a curse, (losing) this would be the cruelest incarnation of all." Must. Think. Positively. Oh wait, 1986. Damn it. Win. One. More. [/sports/redsox] permanent link Fri, 08 Oct 2004Wow. What a game. I started out a local bar for lunch and then headed back to my apartment after the Red Sox had a lead and continued to watch the game on local TV (no ESPN here anymore). Yet, when Vlad hit that grand slam, my heart sank. I really thought that it might go to game five on Sunday. Of course, yah, the Sox would still win it because Schilling would pitch Game Five, but the rotation would be shot for the ALCS and that'd be killer. But, but, but. The Red Sox showed their killer instinct tonight. As Trot said (roughly), if you have them on the cliff, stomp on their hands. Oh wow, did they ever. I do think Mike made a big mistake by putting in Washburn in for K-Rod. All year long he's refused to play the lefty-righty matchup. And, in the elimination game, he decides to change tactics and go lefty-lefty? That's absurd. And, you bring in the guy who lost Game 1 a few days ago? Borderline indefensible. However, Mike is a tremendous manager who made a mistake: this is one of the few times I thought he blew his management of the bullpen. (Should this cost him his job a la Grady? Heck no say I.) So, versus Wash, Papi came through. Oh yah, bring the MFYs on! Oh, BTW, and I just didn't understand John Kerry's allusion to the 'Red Sox fan' at all in tonight's presidential debate. Was he saying that we're not living in reality? Um, that was David Ortiz (of Manny Ortez fame) hitting that home run over the Green Monster, wasn't it? Or, was I not living in reality? Perhaps I'm just too stupid to understand that reference. [/sports/redsox] permanent link Thu, 07 Oct 2004Pedro had some zip on the ball last night: hitting 94 and 95 consistently. Earlier on in the season (like when Vlad had his spectacular 9 RBI night), Pedro was barely hitting low 90s. Who do you think started the 10/04/04 Game One of the Real Season thread and the 10/05/05 Game Two of the Real Season thread over on SoSH? Curt Schilling himself. Fear Pedro and Schilling. Oh, and I did make it to the stadium before the first pitch. Yay. Now, the Angels can't win two at Fenway, can they? [/sports/redsox] permanent link Tue, 05 Oct 2004Schilling on the hill. Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Angels vs. Red Sox. Tickets to all games at the Big A nee Edison Field nee Angel Stadium. First game yields a victory for the Red Sox (9-3). One down, two more to go before the ALCS. Life is good, even though I'm wearing my Boston hat to the games...Here's why. In what passes for clear logic for me, I have a pecking order of teams:
...way down below...
It seems silly, but that's the code I live by. My Rangers will always take precedence, but the Red Sox deserve my affiliation because it's the team my father and grandfather root(ed) for and, heck, the BoSox are usually better than my Rangers. Once a team with a higher priority is eliminated, I go for the team in the next list. Consider it a priority queue. Hah. Since we have a mini-plan to the Angels (such that we can see the Red Sox and Rangers when they are in town), we have playoff tickets for all the Angels home games. And, hence, since they are playing Boston in the first round, my father and I are in the odd predicament of rooting for the Angels to lose. Which sort of sucks. But, refer to the pecking order above. I'll be heading over to the Big A after my discussion tomorrow (shh, I'm going to try to cut it off early) in the vain hope that I'll make it there for the first pitch. We'll see...but I've got lots of things I need to cover in the discussion section tomorrow. [/sports/redsox] permanent link |
